Avnet in expansion mode

 By Tabrez Khan

Avnet Technology Solutions is planning to expand its footprint, product and solutions portfolio, and beef up its support infrastructure. The company plans to increase the number of offices from the existing seven to 20 within the next year.

Said Naresh Desai, General Manager, Avnet India, “When we launched our operations, we had three offices at Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Pune. Since then we have added four more in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi. The Kolkata branch is expected to be ready soon. Our focus now is to set up offices in tier-2 locations such as Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Kochi and Coimbatore.”

Avnet also plans to add new products, mainly in security and networking. “At present we distribute Juniper and F5 Networks, and plan to add unified communications and videoconferencing. On the security front we plan to have an end-to-end security portfolio, and will therefore consider tie-ups with vendors such as Symantec and Check Point with whom we have global partnerships,” informed Desai.

The company recently launched its virtualization partner program called VirtualPath and will launch two new programs, SecurePath and HealthPath, within six months. “VirtualPath provides partners with skills and tools needed to develop virtualization solutions and plan their business around this technology. We have already 65 partners for VirtualPath,” said Desai.

While SecurePath is a partner program aimed at helping data security partners to accelerate their business in IT security through various tools and training, HealthPath enables partners to address opportunities in the healthcare vertical.

Avnet along with IBM will soon launch a Business Partner Innovation Center in Mumbai.

Starting April, the distributor has launched a 24x7 L2 and L3 support for Juniper partners. “We plan to provide L2 and L3 support for all vendors, and this will be a key focus on the services front,” Desai said.
