Bengaluru-based systems builder Connoisseur Electronics has rolled out the convertible Classmate Tablet PC under its Connoi brand. Targeting the education, SMB and SOHO segments, the company aims to sell 10,000 units by the end of 2009. Said R P Harish Kumar, Director, Connoisseur, “Initially we will make the product available through retail outlets such as book stores and LFRs. Then toward the end of 2009 we will be looking at taking this product through partners.” Based on Intel’s Atom processor, the Classmate Tablet comes with 1 GB memory and 60 GB 1.8-inch HDD. Weighing 1.25 kg, the tablet is Wi-Fi enabled and has an 8.9-inch LCD touch-screen that can swivel 180 degrees. It comes with two integrated speakers and an integrated Webcam. Pre-loaded with Windows XP, it also comes with software and tools for classroom management, access management, theft deterrence and systems management. “By equipping our schools with locally manufactured, state-of-the-art computing technology and Internet connectivity, we are ensuring a better education for our students. The highlight of the PC is that along with Intel and the OEM manufacturer, Connoisseur is offering the Classmate Tablet PC to the Indian customer for a special price of Rs 22,500,” said Harish Kumar. Connoisseur recently launched the Tesla Personal Supercomputer in collaboration with Nvidia. Touted as the fastest gaming PC in the world, the Tesla Supercomputer is based on Nvidia’s new GPU architecture which uses parallel processing to deliver a performance that is 250 times that of a standard PC. The systems builder is also at the process of designing and launching a netbook based on Nvidia’s small form-factor ION platform. |
