HP Shuffles PSG Management

By Varun Aggarwal, CRN, May 25, 2010, 1330 hrs

In keeping with the company’s new go-to-market strategy, the Personal Systems Group (PSG) of HP India has undergone a major reorganization of its various teams.

According to an internal memo sent by Vinay Awasthi, Director, PSG, HP, a copy of which is with CRN, the reorganization is to drive “PSG India Vision” and has come into effect from May 1, 2010.

“With the integration of the categories, I would like to leverage the strength of HP portfolio better in driving programs, promotions, training, channel interactions, marketing as well as talent utilization and development,” Awasthi’s memo said.

There would be four divisions under the new PSG organization—Emerging Businesses, IDC and Attach, Desktops and Mobility.

Rajat Mehta, who has experience in driving technology solutions business, will lead the Emerging Business category that comprises blade PCs, thin computing solutions, retail point of sales products, digital signage and other emerging solutions. Sanjeev Pathak, who heads the IDC unit will now lead IDC and Attach & Accessories portfolio for both desktops and notebooks.

Ketan Patel will drive the Mobility Business. Within the Mobility Business, Vikram Mulye will continue to lead Pro notebooks category, while the Pavilion notebook business will be led by Ashish Gupta, who has been driving HP’s DT Attach business and alliances, presently.

Anurag Gupta will be moved into the Compaq notebook category. HP would be announcing workstations category manager soon and till then Gupta will manage the workstations and be “double hatting” Compaq notebooks and workstations till the next announcement.

The entire desktops business will be led by Meraj Ahmad. The business desktops category will be led by Pankaj Harjai who has recently been leading the CS sales team out of Bengaluru and he will be moving to Gurgaon office shortly. Diptesh Ghosh will be moving on to “newer challenges”. His new role will also be announced soon.

HP is in the process of evaluating candidates for consumer desktop and workstations and will fill those positions soon, according to the memo.

HP has neglected in the recent past, at least i have stopped PSG & IPG business. I was the person who usually choose only HP now choosing other brands as preferred models to win the deals. Finally i would like to say Happy birthday !!!!!!!! -Darvis, Bangalore.

HP has lost its ground with partners and corporate customer due to very bad response, especially on PSG & IPG. When competition is taking maximum 15 days time for any delivery, HP will be still be in its process. If HP does not change its orientation towards partners and customers, very soon they will be shown doors.

HP also needs to re-organise & rejig the Partner profitability to ensure sustainability & growth to the partner. HP has been continuously losing market share to other brands in last 18 months & the principal reason for this being partners lack of interest in pushing HP PSG products due to very low margins. All major PSG partners of HP are losing interest in selling HP products due to pathetic margins and non-aggresiveness of HP in its pricing strategy. HP PSG business in itself is a loss making proposition for us and HP PSG should rejig the channel model & channel profitability also in a manner which not only motivates Partner Owners to put all their efforts in ramping up HP PSG numbers but also increases his assets rather than depleting them in the long run. cheers...
