Socomec to Launch Consumer UPS

 By K R Nambiar, CRN, Feb. 27 2009, 1530 hrs

Socomec UPS India, the subsidiary of French power systems major, is all set to enter the consumer UPS market with a range of 600VA products.

"We have been focusing on UPS solutions for the SME and larger enterprise segment over the past several years but our engagement with retail partners was limited. However after signing up with Redington India, we intend to address the huge potential offered by the consumer and SOHO segments," explained Norbert Jacobsen, Managing Director, Socomec UPS India.

The Indian market represents a $ 600 million opportunity, and the entry-level UPS market forms a sizeable proportion.

"Presently 70 percent of our business is through direct engagement with customers. However over a period of time, we would like to become a more channel-centric vendor," Jacobsen said.

Currently, Socomec India has 14 offices and customer service centres across Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Pune, Kolkata, Madurai, Cochin, Chandigarh, Indore, Ahmedabad and Aurangabad.
