I run a small software firm having products catering to various verticals. If I hire programmers to expand my business, they will gain access to the source code of the projects on which they work. How do I ensure that the source code is not misused by them for personal gains?

Gururaj: Make them sign a non-disclosure agreement, non-compete agreement, and put the fear of God in them. Secondly, make a proper employment contract and include all the clauses you want to protect your intellectual property. Make them develop individual components and you can do the integration yourself.

There are certain devices where you can see your files has been imported to any remote machines. So it will be easy to find out it these things happens.

Let them copy the code, just keep major code in dll, in generator method, and let them have the renaming code, if they are not going to have real crunch of the data, that code is no use for them. :)

Dear Rajesh, The another way is restrict user to access rights, remove CD/DVD, Disable USB port, Hardening the Server & Client systems.

The best way to secure code is there should be some supervisor or co ordinator ,he should be always remain in touch with programmers and,at each step he should take updated reports of code ,& take backups.

another way to deploy is use Rights Management Service like what Microsoft provides. This can help.

it can be achieved by the proper Access control matix in place, ensure that developers will only do the check-in/Check-out and implement the role based access controls in place and delete/destroy rights should only be given to the Project managers or equivalent authority
