Following the influx of counterfeit DRAM chips in the Indian market, Hynix is seriously considering legal action.
According to Sanjay Kaul, Hynix Semiconductor Asia’s representative in India, "The counterfeit Hynix memories are sold around Rs 100 cheaper than the original ones, and hence are being consumed regardless of the quality and warranty. In the process, there is no warranty on the counterfeits and such chips have reliability issues over long run. This is damaging the brand name of Hynix in the Channel market.”
According to Hynix, this problem surfaced a few months ago and has only grown in proportion thus forcing the company to consider a crack down on dealers indulging in such business.
Hynix is distributed in India by Abacus Peripherals, eSys and Strontium Technology.
According to Kaul, the difference between the original and fake DRAM chips is that the fonts on the latter are deeper than the one etched on Hynix original product. Also, the flipside of the counterfeit chips bear circular markings by molding machines, while the original Hynix chips have Korea imprinted on them. There is no location mark or equipment mark on the counterfeit chips.
“We would like to urge resellers to check these clues to make a distinction between original and fake products,” said Kaul. |
