Sanvei Bags Surveillance Contract For TN Tax Department

 CRN Network, March 10, 2010, 1100 hrs

Sanvei Overseas has bagged a contract with Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department for setting up of surveillance equipment at the latter’s check posts across the state. The deployment is aimed at checking pilferage and recording entry of all commercial vehicles for proper tax collection.

“Commercial Tax department in Tamil Nadu has decided to use video surveillance to keep a tap and increase tax collection at the state commercial check posts. It is also expected that this will be a key step in IT enablement of government departments beyond central offices,” said A Jayaprakash, General Manager, Sanvei.

The entire project will be based on IP CCTV cameras and video analytics from Verint. The system will be capable of face recognition and number plate recognition and can be easily integrated with other applications that can estimate the tax revenue and match the tax collection challans with the vehicular traffic.

The contract is for deployment at 11 locations initially. After the pilot run, video surveillance will be extended to all the commercial check posts across Tamil Nadu.

Technical and financial evaluation of the contract is being handled by Elcot, the nodal agency of Tamil Nadu government.
