Inspan revamps operations

 By K R Nambiar

Chennai-based distributor Inspan Infotech is restructuring its business in a bid to fight the economic slowdown. The company is redefining its product mix and has closed down some of its unprofitable branch offices.
“2009-10 is a year of consolidation at Inspan. The present market has forced us to change our strategy and be more bottom-line oriented,” said Sudhir S, Managing Director of Inspan.
The company recently signed up with Numeric to distribute its range of inverters, and is also looking to add lifestyle products to its portfolio. In addition, there is a plan to focus on strengthening its component business. Inspan is an exclusive national distributor for Kobian’s Mercury brand, and also distributes Transcend, Corsair and Benq.
The company has recently increased the warranty period on Mercury SMPS from 1 to 3 years.
Sudhir dismissed the ongoing speculation about Inspan’s break-up with Western Digital. “With the depreciation of the rupee, sustaining a low-margin business like internal disk drives is difficult. We have therefore decided to reduce our business with WD till the rupee stabilizes. But we continue to be their distributor.”
