Intel launches server on wheels

 By Sharmee Roy

In a bid to push its newly-launched modular servers in the market, Intel has initiated an innovative ‘Server on Wheels’ marketing campaign.
Sandeep Aurora, Director, Sales and Marketing, Intel India, explained the concept. “Through this program, we are taking our modular server offerings to the doorstep of SMB customers. We show them the advantages and cost-effectiveness of these servers in the long run, and how they can impact the SMB’s business for the better.”
As part of the program, Intel is taking the modular servers in a van to industrial areas around various cities for demonstrations. They have also put in place a team of experts to go to the customers’ premises and show how these servers work.
“We had done a small pilot in and around Delhi in October, and got a very positive response,” Aurora elaborated. “As a result, we are now planning to conduct this campaign in more cities in the north such as Chandigarh, Jaipur and Lucknow. Next quarter, based on feedback, we will roll it out in south and west India. The campaign is being jointly conducted with IPPs focused on specific verticals, and this will help in demand creation.”
Launched recently, Intel’s modular servers are termed as business-in-a-box systems that can support up to six server compute modules and 14 SAS 2.5-inch hard disk drives with two Ethernet switch modules, integrated SAN and server management.
Added Aurora, “Because it is simple to deploy, maintain and scale up, this is a perfect solution for SMBs which want a cost-effective scalable solution, or which are looking toward datacenter applications offering space and price-performance advantages.”
