Kaspersky Hikes Price to Stop Illegal Exports

 By KR Nambiar

Kaspersky has authorized Zoom Technologies to push the single-user version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 in India in order to prevent resellers from misusing the three-user version. The company has also increased the price of the three-user license product to stop illegal exports of the software.

“Some resellers were misusing the license keys of the three-user version and selling the same product to three different unsuspecting end-users. Since the license is perpetual, most customers were not even aware of this practice. However, some end-users have complained, and we have decided to push the single-user version henceforth,” explained M H Noble, CMD, Zoom.

Meanwhile, Kaspersky’s partners globally  have complained that products meant for India are being exported to other markets, disturbing the market operating prices in those markets.

“It’s true that such cases have happened,” Noble admitted. “Prices of Kaspersky in India are the lowest compared to any other country, and these prices may have prompted many to illegally export retail packs meant for India. We have increased the prices, but the new prices are still lower than international prices.”

The Indian prices of Kaspersky are almost one-third of international prices.
