“Info security is critical to India’s growth”

In his present role, Rana Gupta, Business Head, SafeNet, is responsible for the entire Software Rights Management business throughout Asia-Pacific. He has 16 years experience in the IT industry. Prior to SafeNet, he was at Altos India and was responsible for successful roll out of its product lines.

If not in the IT industry: I would have been teaching in a university. Or, maybe not. I think I am meant only for the IT industry.

Biggest passion: I want to make information security an integral part of the Indian growth story.

Behind the wheels: Slicker and more powerful a vehicle, the better it is. But I love my current drive Honda Civic too.

Gadgets I can’t live without: I am addicted to my BlackBerry, which in turn replaced my earlier addiction to my laptop.

Weekends are for: Family and friends.

Favorite holiday destination: Any place where you can have loads of fun and frolic, and not indulge in shopping.

Hate the most: People who are ready with excuses.

Ultimate ambition: To be as successful in creating a business team as I was in building an R&D horsepower.

Wildest thing I’ve ever done: The wildest is yet to come.

Thing I most want to do in life: To be able to give back something to my children and the society.

Favorite sport and sportsperson: There is nothing like sweating it out in the gym! Watching cricket used to be fun and I still love Sachin Tendulkar for his skill and humility.

If I became the Prime Minister: Continue doing what I do the best. As the PM wouldn’t I have the authority to do so?

Celebrity I’d like to spend a day with: None. It’s such a waste of time and why would I ruin my own spotlight?

Deepest and darkest fear: Let others figure it out.
