Cyberoam Courts The Mid-Market

 By Tabrez Khan

With a view to enhancing its market presence and filling the gaps in its product portfolio, Cyberoam has launched two new UTM appliances targeted at mid-market customers. The CR500ia and CR750ia appliances sport enterprise-class features such as 3G and Wimax support, and security for HTTPS/SSL traffic. They also have other value-added features such as enhanced GUI and instant messaging archiving and control.

According to Tushar Sighat, VP, Cyberoam, India and Saarc, there was a huge gap between the company’s SMB product offering targeted at customers with up to 500 users, and its enterprise-class UTM appliance aimed at organizations with more than 1,000 users.

“Most enterprises need an appliance for more than 750 users. Our product portfolio did not adequately cover this segment. Our new launches will ensure that we have a more complete product portfolio which will appeal to all segments of our customers,” said Sighat.

According to him, the primary demand for Cyberoam’s new UTM appliances is expected to come from manufacturing, automobile, health care and BFSI customers. Sighat said the current market for UTM appliances in India is pegged at $50 million by IDC.

“From the time we started the UTM appliance business we have seen many partners—who were earlier not very active in the security business—becoming major security players because appliances provided them the opportunity to get a toehold in the security market,” said Sighat. “Going forward, the appliance business is expected to grow exponentially as we witness large enterprises adopting it for their security needs.”

The CR500ia is priced at `6.70 lakh, and the CR750ia comes with a price tag of `9.10 lakh. The prices include the appliance and a year’s total value subscription involving services such as antimalware, antispam, Web and application filters, intrusion prevention systems and 8x5 support.
