Seagate Introduces BlackArmor Family For Small Business

 CRN Network, March 11, 2010, 1130 hrs

Seagate announced a suite of network-attached, workstation and portable storage solutions BlackArmor, designed to meet the digital asset management needs of small business professionals. The new solutions include: BlackArmor NAS 440/420, BlackArmor NAS 220 and BlackArmor NAS 110 network storage servers and the BlackArmor WS 110 external drive workstation.

“In challenging economic conditions, small businesses are demanding that high-quality, integrated, reliable IT solutions be delivered in economical packages,” Ben Woo, Vice President, Enterprise Storage Systems Research, IDC. “Providing the flexibility to choose from an array of solutions that support current needs and provide a strategic growth path with minimal additional investment will be very appealing to this market segment.”

Designed for businesses with little or no IT support, BlackArmor storage solutions are aimed at small office environments with up to 50 employees as well as self-employed professionals.

The BlackArmor line of solutions come with software management tools that are compatible across the family, and also include features like automated full-system backup and SafetyDril software—a bare metal recovery feature for enhanced data protection. For increased data protection of backed-up files, the software also features an AES 256-bit government-grade encryption.

BlackArmor NAS 440/420 storage servers are designed to provide uptime and data integrity for up to 50 networked computers. Each is a four-bay NAS device, populated with Seagate disk drives.

Delivering centralized network storage and secure remote access in a compact design, the BlackArmor NAS 220 storage server is a small-business-specific network attached storage solution designed to provide data protection for up to 20 PCs.

BlackArmor NAS 110 storage server can provide centralized storage and media streaming for up to 10 PCs, and includes support for Windows Server 2008, wiki server support and up to 2TB of capacity.

Aimed at small office, home-based professionals or remote staff, the BlackArmor WS 110 external drive comes with dual interface of eSATA and USB 2.0.

The BlackArmor family is available through channel partners and select retailers. The manufacturers’ suggested retail prices (MSRP) are: four-bay, four drive configuration NAS 440 8TB at Rs 99,000; four-bay, two drive configuration NAS 420 4TB at Rs 52,500; two-bay, two drive configuration NAS 220 4TB at Rs 42,000; one-bay, one drive configuration NAS 110 2TB at Rs 19,000 and NAS 110 1TB at Rs 12,000; and external drive workstation WS 110 2TB at Rs 13,500 and WS 110 1TB at Rs 8,000.
