While the disk drive industry is struggling with production issues following the floods in Thailand, Hitachi GST has launched the world's first 4 TB drives.
Hitachi has announced two new drives the 4TB Deskstar 5K4000 a 3.5-inch hard drive with a 32MB cache buffer clocking 5400 rpm,and an external drive version of the drive the Touro External Disk drive.
One of the highlights of the new drive is availability of a software download that would make the entire 4 TB capacity available as a single drive, without having to install extra hardware or tweak motherboard BIOS, claims Hitachi.
Hitachi GST will be shipping its Deskstar 5K4000 (bare drives and bulk pack) to OEMs, distributors and channel partners worldwide in Q1 2012.
The internal drives are expected to retail at around $345 (Rs 18800 after duties ) while external drives are expected to retail at about $400 (Rs 22,000 after duties in India). |
