Tyco Electronics plans to aggressively target the data center solutions business and has launched a range of products for this segment.
“We see the number of new IT projects dropping every month as fresh investments are being withheld across the industry and customers are consolidating. However, we also see more data centers coming up, and we are all geared to capture more marketshare there,” explained K K Shetty, MD, Tyco Electronics India. Tyco says that its products have been used to cable up 75 percent of the top data centers set up in the country during the last year, and he wants a bigger share of the pie this year.
To address the opportunity Tyco has readied pre-terminated cable assemblies and high density cabling systems which provide full 10G support. “We have products that are virtually plug-and-go, factory terminated, offer better cooling and more density in a lesser diameter of cable, and above all are RoHS-compliant. Though cabling and other passive electronics costs are less than 5 percent of the cost of a data center, they are as critical as any other part,” said Shetty.
In addition, Tyco is pushing its intelligent cabling systems that give an instant snapshot to a network administrator about cable bottlenecks, faulty cables or any other performance issues. “We believe we have the best-of-breed passive electronics solutions for the data center, and we are talking to practically all the data center solutions partners to work with us,” stated Shetty.
The structured cabling vendor, along with its partners, is planning an education drive on the importance of quality high-density cabling for data centers. |
