Trend Micro restructures channel strategy

 By K R Nambiar

Security vendor, Trend Micro is restructuring its channel business in the country and has elevated Delhi-based ACPL and Chennai-based Raksha Technologies as sub-distributors. The vendor is also betting on a retail strategy and will make its security offerings available for consumers and small businesses by the end of month. Trend Micro Internet Security and Security Pro will be available in retail outlets across the country.

"With the Internet penetration increasing, so are security threats. The distribution strategy revolves around looking at each of the IT clusters in India and we are having distribution channels to address the same. Raksha and ACPL will be sub-distributors, while Ingram Micro will continue to be distributor," explained Amit Nath, Country Manager, Trend Micro India.
To connect with consumers, Trend Micro has utilized the services of FM radio in select cities to drive the message of safe Internet usage. "We are entering the retail space in 32 cities, and are planning to work with Large Format Retailers too. The focus currently is on the B and C class cities and towns, where awareness is picking up," Nath added.
To charge the spirits of the channels, the vendor is in the process of announcing some more exciting sale-out schemes. "We are also in talks with large OEMs in the country, and soon will be in a position to announce more tie-ups," he hinted.
