Haier, TTSL launch 3G netbook
Olive Telecommunication, the parent company of Haier Mobile, and Tata Teleservices have launched India’s first 3G-embedded netbook. The Netbook X107H, powered by Qualcomm chipset, will leverage the capabilities of EV-DO technology on TTSL network to enable users with mobile broadband connectivity. The netbook has a 1.6GHz processor, 1GB memory and 160GB HDD. It comes with EMI payment options and will be available at Tata Indicom stores and other retail outlets across the country.
EMC opens new India CoE
EMC announced that it will invest $1.5 billion in India over the next five years. It inaugurated the Centre of Excellence (COE) center in Bengaluru, the largest R&D center outside the US, with almost 5,00,000 sq ft of office space. EMC will invest $1.5 billion in expanding R&D infrastructure at the COE and adding more technologists to drive deeper levels of engagement and support for local customers and partners.
LG unveils 3G smartphone
LG Electronics recently launched a 3G smartphone—GM730. Based on Qualcomm’s Mobile Station Modem 7201A chipset, the smartphone includes 3D S class user interface and Windows Mobile. The GM730 launch coincides with the opening of LG Application Store, which expands the capability of LG's smartphones. Currently there are 1,400 applications available out of which 100 are available, free of charge to LG handset users.
IBM opens 3 CoEs in MP
IBM has opened Centers of Excellence (CoE) with three engineering colleges in Madhya Pradesh to provide a platform for development of software skills among the students. The CoEs have been launched at Government College Jabalpur, Shri Vaishnav Institute of Technology and Science, Indore and Mahakal Institute of Technology, Ujjain. They will impart courses to train students on IBM software products like DB2, WebSphere, Lotus, Rational and Tivoli. IBM will partner closely with the local government and academia, and provide software, course materials, training and curriculum development. |
