HP Realigns its Enterprise Business

 By Ramdas S

HP’s enterprise business TSG (Technology Solutions Group) will now be known ESSN (Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking). In addition to giving it a new name, the vendor has also realigned the business.
ESSN will include HP ProCurve networking portfolio, previously managed as a separate division with its own go-to-market strategy and channel programs.

“HP’s path forward could be organic with more acquisitions. The vendor is likely to beef up its networking portfolio. I think, we should expect more announcements soon,” said Anirudh Shrotriya, Director, Shro Systems.

At the recently concluded Partner meet in Osaka, Japan, HP also shared details of its Converged Infrastructure Architecture—its answer to Cisco’s Unified Computing Strategy. “HP showed us road map with more convergence between servers, storage and networking portfolio, especially in the corporate data centers. This, I believe, is one of the reasons for the realignment of the division,” observed Rajeev Mehta, Managing Director, Zest Systems.

The vendor reiterated its commitment to channel partners and also hinted at the change in its named account policy, promising to hand over more direct accounts to channels. Now HP will only focus on the global 2,000 accounts fighting it out with Dell and IBM, and will share its other direct accounts with
partners.

“The announcement to hand over some more direct accounts to partners is good news,” said RS Shanbhag, Managing Director, ValuePoint Group. “During the conference, HP focused on growth and stressed on importance of partners from India and China— branding them critical for the company to rebound. According to general expectation, global partners should grow by 15 percent. In India, we hope to see bigger growth rates.”
