Buoyed by its strong show in the SOHO and small business networking and electronic accessories space, Belkin India is targeting a year-on-year growth in excess of 100 percent for FY2010. By end of Q1 2010, the vendor plans to add more product lines and also launch its passive networking components business in the country.
“We have clocked $2.5 million for Q4 2009, and since it is the first quarter of our calendar year, we are clearly in for a high growth this year. We have done remarkably well in wireless networking, where IDC have ranked us No 3 for Q3 2009—not bad for a vendor that started wireless business in the country in February 2009. IDC has also ranked us No 1 in the wireless client adapter market,” said Mohit Anand, Country Head, Belkin India. Belkin India revenues for the year 2009 was $5 million. "We must clock $11 million during the current fiscal," he added.
According to Anand, the vendor’s networking business—comprising products like wireless routers, unmanaged switches, KVM switches and wireless dongles—contributes around 44 percent revenues. Around 22 percent of its business comes from the traditional laptop accessories and close to 22 percent from electrical accessories business.
“We have high hopes for the electrical accessories business, where we are probably the only real MNC brand in Indian market. And we are presently available in a few hundred shops, which means we have just covered a fraction of the market,” said Anand. Around 6 percent of the business is accounted by ipod and iphone accessories.
While Belkin catalogue in US boasts of 20,000 products, in India the availability is limited to a few categories. “We are carefully evaluating our plan to launch other product line in Indian market. With markets picking up, launching products in the passive networking business or the server racks definitely makes sense. However, we don’t want to lose focus and spread ourselves too thin. We will make new announcements by end of the quarter,” added Anand. |
