The Eastern market has emerged as the highest growth market for Canon India, where it claims to have established a leadership position in the digital camera and digital copier multi-functional categories with a 30 percent market share. The region also contributed 32 percent of Canon’s overall revenue from printer consumables.
According to Canon, eastern region cities like Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati, Patna and Ranchi generated revenues of Rs 110 crore across all business in 2008. The company is now looking at revenues of Rs 150 crore in 2009 from the region.
Kensaku Konishi, President and CEO, Canon India said, “We are thrilled to announce that all our three product divisions have grown higher than the industry in East and have generated the highest market share from the Eastern market. At the same time we aim to further increase penetration and sustain momentum in these markets. These markets continue to be crucial to our overall growth and we plan to expand further to reach out to our end users.”
Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice President, Canon India said, “The East has always been one of our key markets and is now the key revenue generator as well. Canon today has a footprint in 300 towns across India out of which 80 towns are in the region. Nearly 60 percent of our business from this region comes from outside West Bengal demonstrating high potential of smaller states.”
To mark this achievement, the company recently organized an event ‘Thrill of Thirty’ in Kolkata where Canon’s brand ambassador, Sachin Tendulkar, was also present. This event was followed by a channel partner meet to share the success with partners and acknowledge their efforts. |
