EC Media Debuts eBook Reader Wink; Signs Redington As ND

After Pi by Infibeam, it is now the turn of EC Media International to introduce India’s second e-book reader Wink XTS. The Bengaluru-based vendor has announced Redington India as its national distributor. The product will also be distributed by LFR Croma.

 

Measuring 185x124.6x10.9mm, the Wink XTS weighs 260gm. Its 6-inch display has a resolution of 800x600-pixel and 16 level gray scale. It has 2GB storage on, and external SD slot is expandable up to 16GB. It also has slots for a micro-SIM card and USB 2.0.  Wink is priced at `11,490.

 

The company calls Wink a multi-functional e-reader. It is powered by an ARM9 400MHz processor and runs on a Linux core. It is Wi-Fi enabled (with support for 802.11b/g networking standards). It can also be used to connect via GPRS with quad band support. It has a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack and can play MP3 and aac files.

 

It supports widely used text formats such as txt, rtf, pdf, doc, html, wolf, chm, fb2 and djvu. The Wink uses e-ink technology to display content to readers and can also be used to check emails or play games.

 

It charges via USB, through PC, as well as an adapter. Battery life lasts until 8,000 page are turned over or music played for 10-hours.

 

The reader supports up to 15 Indian languages. EC Media has provided access to 2,00,000 titles to Wink’s readers along with newspapers and magazines. The company has also set up an online store to offer e-books, journals, newspapers, magazines and articles. It has enrolled leading publishers Penguin, Roli, Oxford University, Harper Collins and Permanent Black for content.

 

“With the launch of Wink, we want to enable the growth of content provisioning through the electronic medium by leveraging its existing eco-system of global partnerships with publishers and aggregators,” said Pradeep Palazhi, COO, EC Media.
