HP maintained its leadership in the India x86 server market, with 34 percent of the total 37,400 units shipments in Q3 2008 (July-September quarter), according to IDC India. In terms of unit shipments, the industry grew 7.3 percent in Q3 2008 over Q2 2008 while HP grew 5 times as much at 36.8 percent in terms of unit shipments. The industry grew year-on-year (Q3 2008 over Q3 2007) at 20.8 percent while the company grew by 43.2 percent year-on-year in terms of unit shipments. HP also led Q3 2008 in terms of factory revenue with a share of 36.9 percent.
The company also led the market in the 1-socket, 2-socket and 4-socket x86 server categories with 33.7 percent, 33.3 percent and 48 percent shares, respectively, in terms of unit shipments. In the 1-socket category, while the industry grew by 112 percent in the category Q-on-Q, HP accounted for most of this growth, growing in terms of units by over 322 percent.
On the India x86 blade server front, the company garnered 58 percent of the share for units shipped in Q3 2008. This is the seventh consecutive quarter running of HP's leadership in the India x86 blade server spaces.
According to Amit Dalal, Server Analyst, IDC India, “We have observed a positive momentum in the education and SMB sectors in the last quarter. HP’s marketing programmes, specifically the focus on channel training and enablement further helped it to tap into the opportunity in the 1-socket x86 server category during Q3 2008.”
