I run a small software firm having products catering to various verticals. If I hire programmers to expand my business, they will gain access to the source code of the projects on which they work. How do I ensure that the source code is not misused by them for personal gains?

Gururaj: Make them sign a non-disclosure agreement, non-compete agreement, and put the fear of God in them. Secondly, make a proper employment contract and include all the clauses you want to protect your intellectual property. Make them develop individual components and you can do the integration yourself.

The best way to secure code is there should be some supervisor or co ordinator ,he should be always remain in touch with programmers and,at each step he should take updated reports of code ,& take backups.

it can be achieved by the proper Access control matix in place, ensure that developers will only do the check-in/Check-out and implement the role based access controls in place and delete/destroy rights should only be given to the Project managers or equivalent authority

rather than the code, place emphasis on selling, marketing and branding of the products. share profits appropriately. this i am sure will stop any unintentional/intentional foul play from employees.
