Simmtronics, IBM Sign Global Agreement

Simmtronics Semiconductors has entered into a global agreement with IBM to preload IBM Client for Smart Work software solution in the Simmbook based on the Ubuntu operating system. This includes Lotus Symphony office productivity software which is made available at no charge to Simmbook customers.

 

The agreement was recently signed by Indrajit Sabharwal, Managing Director, Simmtronics Semiconductors and Kevin Cavanaugh, Vice President, Messaging and Collaboration, IBM at Lotusphere, Orlando, US.

 

Under the agreement, both the companies will execute a joint marketing plan and work closely on the sales opportunities for Simmbook with IBM Client for Smart Work on Ubuntu globally.


"We launched Simmbooks seeing the high demand for netbook devices in enterprises worldwide. Delivering Simmbooks with IBM Client for Smart Work on Ubuntu will help our customers lower their total cost of ownership and be on the forefront of innovation," commented Sabharwal.

 

“This announcement further advances IBM’s commitment to delivering more value to clients who were previously locked in to other desktop solutions. We realize that clients like choice—whether its choosing the delivery model for IBM Client for Smart Work or choosing the type of office productivity editors, like Lotus Symphony, a rich client alternative offered free of charge without the worry of vendor lock-in," said Cavanaugh.

Great value to customers who are looking to reduce total cost of ownership by reducing massive Windows desktop cost. In other words 70% cost reduction if not more!

It's an honour for all the employees of Simmtronics semiconductors Ltd(India) that now we are having a joint marketing plan with IBM.Hope, all the countries would now get the value and quality of Simmbook apart from Motherboards, Memory Modules and Graphic cards. It's a new ray of hope for Simmtronics to get such an opportunity.

Simmtronics, IBM & Ubuntu will add value. Ubuntu is safe from malware, stable and efficient with resources. I use Ubuntu extensively.
