K7 to launch UTM appliances

 By K R Nambiar

Chennai-based K7 Computing is all set to enter the perimeter security market and is expected to launch UTM appliances by second half of 2009.
“So far, we have focused only on consumer antivirus market but our ambition is to become a total security vendor. We will soon be launching the enterprise and mobile edition of our antivirus. Perimeter security is the next step in that progression. We are in active talks with an Australian UTM appliance vendor for collaboration. Price-performance of the UTM appliance will be our key USP,” informed J Kesavardhanan, CEO, K7 Computing.
The company’s antivirus business is estimated to have done a business of Rs 5 crore during the last fiscal. “We have made good progress in a short span ever since we signed up Compuage. We aim to carry forward the momentum to increase our share in the consumer space and repeat it in the enterprise space,” said John Devasahayam, Director of K7.
Talking about the company’s international plans, Devasahayam informed, “In Japan, we continue to do well. Last year we introduced our consumer antivirus in Germany with local language interface which has been very successful and hence this year, we are expanding to countries like Switzerland and Austria which are largely German speaking.”
