North Scan - Faridabad

How big is the Faridabad IT market?
Faridabad market is not a huge market. There are about 55 active resellers in the market. On an average about 400 PCs are sold monthly, out of which 100 are assembled. Only a few resellers are large players whereas most of them are small players in the market. Post Diwali, the sales have gone down drastically. Of late, the overall growth rate in the market has been merely 10 percent monthly.

What are the drivers for IT growth?
The market here is predominantly ruled by the home market which contributes around 70 percent. The rest 30 percent is shared by government, SMB and the education segment. Most of the large corporate deals are done through Kendriya Bhandar.

What are the buying trends?
There is a lot of awareness in the market now. Security has become an area of importance and customers are showing a lot of interest in anti-virus. People are showing inclination towards original software.
Life style products move fast and notebook sales have increased.

What are the key challenges facing resellers?
Presently, the major problem that resellers are facing is paucity of funds. In order to expand our business, we require money and for that we are dependent on financial institutions.
Apart from this, there is lot of price disparity in products that are sold in Faridabad market and the ones in Delhi. For instance, a Compaq notebook is priced Rs 1,000 less in Delhi vis-à-vis Faridabad. This really baffles us because we have no clue on why there is such a disparity. Over the past one year, there has been no initiative on the part of vendors to impart training or to educate us on the forthcoming schemes and products.

What are the activities organized by your association?
We do not have an IT association but a couple of times efforts were made to form an association. However due to lack of interest from most resellers, it did not materialize. For any issues, the partners approach the vendors directly.
