How big is the Yamuna Nagar IT market?
We have 50-plus active resellers who sell roughly 400 PCs every month.
What are the drivers for IT growth? We have a lot of industries such as plywood, plastic, sugar and paper. Besides, we have the home and education segments, which each account for around 40 percent of the market. The rest comes from the industrial segment.
What are the buying trends? The market has been witnessing a tilt toward notebooks—with a 45 percent increase in sales—while the rest belongs to the desktop. Brands such as HP, Compaq, Dell and Lenovo are popular in the notebook category, while assembled desktops are favored over branded ones. In notebooks, consumers are looking for more stylish models. Notebook accessories like cooling stands and external mice are some of the hot-selling items. LCDs are in demand, with customers looking for 22 or 24 inches.
What are the key challenges faced by resellers?
The biggest problem is that for any service support we have to go almost 100 km away to the nearest service center, which happens to be in Karnal. We often end up giving support ourselves though not many dealers are equipped or qualified enough to give support on their own. To make things worse, for replacement of any spares the vendors take a minimum of 15 days. Also, the communication from vendors is nil. Whatever information we receive is from distributors. Even they pass on the information at their free will, leaving us clueless most of the time as to when certain products or schemes are introduced. We would like the vendors to consider all these issues and help us get trained to be able to provide post-sales support.
What are the activities organized by your association? Our association, the Computer Dealers Welfare Association of Yamuna Nagar, was formed only six months ago when the previous association, the District Yamuna Nagar Association, went defunct. This new association, with about 32 members, is more proactive in resolving our issues. |
