New retail printer from WeP
WeP Peripherals has launched a thermal receipt printer, the TH400. With a print speed of 220 mm/sec and a flash memory of 256KB, the TH400’s features include character enlargement, black mark sensor and barcode printing. The TH400 has an MTBF rating of 360,000 power-on-hours and also has built-in parallel interfaces, which can be changed to USB or Ethernet depending on the user's requirements. With this product, WeP is targeting all retail formats for printing cash receipts like kitchen orders in restaurants, tokens in banks, movie tickets, and gate and tax receipts at toll gates. The TH400 is priced at Rs 13,800.
WD Scorpio 320 GB HDD
Western Digital (WD) has introduced the Scorpio brand of 320 GB, 2.5 inch SATA hard drives for notebook computers and portable storage devices. The Scorpio 320 GB also boasts of a 3 Gb/s transfer rate. The product features WhisperDrive, which makes it one of the quietest 5400 RPM, 2.5 inch drives available. Some of its technologies include ShockGuard, which combines firmware and hardware advancements to protect the drive mechanics and platter surface to meet shock tolerance specifications required for mobile and notebook applications, and IntelliSeek, which lowers power consumption, noise and vibration. The WD Scorpio 320 GB is priced at Rs 10,500 and is available through distributors like Champion Computers, Inspan Infotech, Venktron Digital Systems, Jupiter International, Compuage Infocom and Lalani Infotech.
M5 from Transcend
Transcend has introduced M5, its latest compact size multi-card reader. M5 is adapter-free and supports all the latest memory card formats. It offers fast, easy transfer of music, videos, photos and documents through its high-speed USB 2.0 interface. M5 offers a slot for memory cards like CompactFlash and Microdrive (for hi-end digital SLR cameras), SD cards (the most popular storage format for mainstream consumer digital cameras), XD cards, the complete Memory Stick series, and miniSD and microSD (for most mobile phones). It is fully compatible with the high-speed USB 2.0 interface and is capable of data transfer rates up to 480Mb/s. In addition, it supports the latest SD 2.0 (SDHC) and MMC 4.0 standards for hi-end memory cards. The multi-card reader also directly accepts newer, mini-size mobile phone memory cards such as miniSD, microSD, MMCmobile MS Duo and M2, without having to use an adapter. It is compatible with Windows Me/2000/XP/Vista, Mac OS 9.X and later versions, Linux Kernel 2.4 and later versions. PixelView’s new TV tuner cards
Prolink Microsystems has launched a new range of PixelView, which includes PlayTV Xpress, PlayTV Mobile and PlayTV USB 415. The PlayTV Xpress offers portable PCTV entertainment with TV and FM radio reception. It also supports worldwide audio decoding standards such as NICAM, A2, MTS, BTSC and EIAJ, via the ExpressCard PCI Express interface. Additionally, video/audio stereo capture connects a VCR (VHS, V8, Hi8, etc.) or a game console to record or monitor the videos to users’ laptops. Xpress also supports Media Center. PlayTV Xpress is designed to use serial interconnect technology, enabling higher bit rates that are better suited for performance-intensive multimedia applications. This rate is about four times faster than that of the original PCI and USB. The PlayTV USB 415 is a high-speed USB 2.0 plug-and-play interface that is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista and Media Center. It has an advanced silicon tuner for analog TV receptions, with powerful real-time MPEG2 recording. It can function as a time-shifting, schedule-recording, auto-scan TV channel.
