The partner talent show
CLS has always been a place where partners get an opportunity to demonstrate their talent to their peers—be it in business or other activities. This year was no different, with Ranjan Chopra, CMD, Team Computers, displaying his talent with the saxophone. Chopra, who has been playing the sax for the last six years, enthralled the audience by playing some romantic songs. Starting with a French classic, La Vie En Rose, Chopra changed gears with ease to blow the ever-popular Hindi number Ajeeb Dastan Hain Yeh. But being a rock fan, how could he leave a rock number out of his box? To the delight of rock lovers in the audience, Chopra then played the Deep Purple chart-topper Smoke On The Water. The evening then got more entertaining with karaoke. Like last year, this time too it was Rakesh Jain, Director, Supreme Computers, who stole the limelight with his mesmerizing voice. He gave a power-packed performance belting out songs of his favorite singer, Kumar Sanu. Following his act, more delegates jumped on to the floor to experiment with their vocals. The next evening was again fun-filled with delegates making merry, this time on the dance floor. Each one had a different move to flaunt—and entertain everyone around.
Wild theories
A motley group at a casino in Goa was spinning a few possible theories. One gentleman, a strong HP partner who also dabbles in selling Dell servers, says that a Dell executive confided in him that there were possibilities of Dell acquiring Acer. The theory, though wild, had a few backers in the crowd. The reasoning was sound. Dell is presently struggling to add numbers, while Acer is doing quite well in European markets, and is poised to become the No 1 notebook company. Dell’s direct model and its enterprise strengths will complement Acer’s traditional strengths in consumer markets and channels. Dell CEO Michael Dell had earlier announced that they are open to acquisitions. All this sounds like a good theory, because Dell-Acer can possibly take on the might of HP.
