 De(ll)alt a bad hand

Dell has done it again, this time in India. Last month, a reseller in South who had ordered 15 Dell Vostro desktops with 17-inch monitors was sent a bill higher than the combined MRP of the CPU and the monitor.
While the MRP sticker on the CPU and the monitor respectively quoted Rs 15,800 and Rs 4,950 (including taxes), the bill sent had Rs 22,000 printed on it—a difference of Rs 1,250.

When the issue was reported to Dell, the company advised the reseller to ignore the matter as it was a clerical error and issued a credit note for the difference amount.

However the partner isn’t happy. “The Dell response is very casual and disappointing. They lack the basic commercial knowledge that selling above the MRP is a crime under the Weights and Measures Act,” he opined.

When Shadow spoke to the Dell MSA in the region, he said that this wasn’t the first case and there have been many such instances in the past.

It may be recalled that couple of months ago the Dell website in Taiwan had posted erroneous prices of its notebooks and LCD monitors. Reportedly, for both these cases the Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission has already launched an investigation. And should it find Dell in violation of laws, it may have to shell out $759,000 in fine.
