Dell's Double Doh!

Once bitten, Dell’s Taiwanese Web site isn’t quite twice shy. Barely 10 days after the company was slapped with a penalty by the Taiwan Consumer Protection Commission for posting erroneous price for its 19-inch monitor online, the PC-major has done it again.

This time the price mix-up is for its Latitude E4300 laptop which was listed online at a price of $563, almost 75 percent lower than its market operating price of $2,101.

In the previous goof-up, Dell’s 19-inch monitors were erroneously priced at approximately $15 instead of $228.
Dell had earlier refused to fulfill orders for 16,000 monitors that it received for the erroneous discount offer. But it finally relented under pressure from Taiwan Consumer Protection Commission.

With the second goof up, the Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission has launched an investigation into the matter. And should it find Dell in violations of laws, the company may have to shell out $759,000 or (NT$25 million) in fine.

Dell has already suspended its online operation and started an internal investigation into the goof-up. Some in the company have hinted at sabotage by a disgruntled employee, while some are blaming hackers for this muddle.
