VMware Intros New Competency In India

Sonal Desai, CRN, April 1, 2011, 1330 hrs

Virtualization behemoth VMware has introduced the Virtualization of Business Critical Applications solution competency for its tier 2 partners in India.

Announcing the new competency at the VMware Partner Exchange in Mumbai on Friday, Raghu Raghuram Senior Vice President and General Manager, Virtualization & Cloud Platforms said, “Compared to revenues that a partner could earn on x86 earlier, today, he can make 3x those figures on a virtualx86 platform. Partners need to be educated around these opportunities.”

Once a customer moves onto virtualization, there are other riders such as disaster recovery (DR), business continuity (BC) and performance services and SLAs that require special skills. “We have developed some IPs globally, and have also set standard guidelines around what and how the partners can deliver, CoEs, best practices, tech skills, etc,” said Ganesan Arumugam, Director-Channel & Alliances at VMware.

He informed that of the 70-80 tier 2 partners, the company would initially work with the top 10 or 20 highly skilled tier 2 partners such as Veeras Infotek, Sunrise Technologies, PC Solutions, Pentagon, Progression, etc.

Partners would have to achieve three levels of certification namely VSP (VMware Sales Professional), VTSP (VMware Technical Sales Professional) for pre sales and VCP (VMware Certified Professional) for implementation.
