OutSystems announced its new research and development center in Bangalore, India. This center adds to the OutSystems global R&D center capabilities currently located in Portugal, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Spain. This commitment comes as OutSystems plans to further expand its footprint in India. With this center, the company aims to address the rising adoption of modern application development platforms by simplifying the application development and maintenance process to drive innovation and elevate customer experience.

The launch also reflects growing adoption of the platform in the region, especially across sectors such as BFSI, IT/ITes, auto, manufacturing, retail, and healthcare. The OutSystems technology can substantially accelerate the software development lifecycle, allowing businesses to quickly upgrade legacy systems, or create new web or mobile applications with the features that today’s mobile customers expect. The R&D center will work towards abstracting complexities, such as cloud adoption, from our customer’s development journey.

OutSystems CTO, Patrick Jean stated, “IT modernization, technical debt, digital business requirements, and a shortage of experienced developers are all challenges that organisations face around the world. We are not only helping organisations rapidly build new applications that are scalable, secure, and reliable, but also delivering applications that are adaptable and able to be changed as quickly as the needs of the business. The APJ market is a high-growth market for us. Our expected growth has led us to allocate a significant portion of our investments in building a new R&D center in India. The creation of this new development center is a top priority as we believe it will help us expand our footprint in India as well as leverage the technical expertise in the region for global customers. This new R&D center in India will be a crucial part of our strategic growth initiatives and will be essential to building impactful solutions for our customers around the globe.”

Anand Yashwanth, Head of Engineering – India, OutSystems added, “This is the first research base for OutSystems in India, as part of our efforts to enable efficient and rapid application development for business growth based on global and local needs in the swiftly growing digital era. India, as a fast-growing digital tech hub and one of the largest developer communities in the world, is supporting global innovation initiatives for industry leaders. We are sure that the insights we get from the market will help us better address challenges and equip businesses to cater to the evolving consumer paradigm.

On the launch, Subrato Bandhu, Regional VP, OutSystems India said, “India has grown into a major developer base, and according to industry research, is expected to become the largest developer population center by 2024, which makes it a key market for us to continue our growth journey. This R&D center is a strategic launch aligned with our global growth plans. We are confident that our collaboration with Global System Integrators(GSIs), Global Consulting players, and Global Captive Centers(GCCs) in India will not only strengthen our partnerships with them, but also improve our product and its application across use cases. Different product delivery lines of OutSystems R&D will leverage innovation and development from India. With OutSystems brand presence in the market and its commitment to innovate through software, we believe that we will recruit some of India’s best talent.”

Gartner predicts that by 2025, 70% of new application development by enterprises will use low code or no code technologies, up from less than 25% in 2020. In India, the market for these rapid application development approaches is expected to bring major disruption in the coming years as we witness the technology adoption across industries.

OutSystems is a developer-oriented platform that aims to leverage Indian tech talent to improvise the platform and better address the challenges faced by our customers. The new R&D center will play a key role as a source of innovation for OutSystems. The company intends to increase its headcount in India to represent 15% of the global R&D team in the near term and is actively looking into recruiting professionals for roles supporting cloud, development, architecture, quality automation, DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). These roles are part of OutSystems long-term goal to build a successful R&D team that operates in a flexible remote working environment.

The launch also provides opportunities for local talent to do cutting-edge work and contribute to an organization whose primary focus is to make software development accessible to everyone.
