11 tips to keep employees secure

Cyber attacks have increased dramatically since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic – up at least 37% in the past month alone. User error, or the response of an employee to a malicious online threat, is a leading cause of negative consequences from these attacks. In fact, TechRadar estimates that 90% of all breaches are caused by human error. This could be anything from a user having improper browsing habits, opening phishing emails, losing or failing to secure sensitive data.

Ensure that in addition to utilizing security features and settings within Central, you educate your users about the importance of securing their own workstations.

Here are a few tips to share with your endpoints on how to remain secure while working remotely:

  1. Stay up-to-date with all operating system patches and updates

  3. Use strong passwords; a password manager is preferable
  4. While it seems obvious, make sure computers are in a safe place that cannot be readily accessed by people outside the organization

  6. Remove unnecessary Windows (and other operating system) services
  7. Use secure system configurations settings (including browser settings)
  8. Make periodic backup copies of any data that is essential to your organization
  9. Never click on a link within an email or visit a web site unless you know the web site is reputable and safe
  10. Logoff or lock the screen when leave your computer unattended; use a password protected screen saver
  11. Be diligent in monitoring spam and phishing emails in your inbox. If you are unsure of the content, or concerned it may be malicious, send it to your IT department for assistance.
