Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has concluded the first edition of the tcs AI Hackathon 2025, setting a global record as the world’s largest AI hackathon. With more than 281,000 employees from 58 countries participating, the event underscores TCS’ commitment to fostering an AI-first culture across its global workforce.
Anchored on 21 industry-relevant AI themes, the hackathon showcased exceptional diversity and reach, with 33% women participation, 38% Gen Z employees, and 29% non-technical roles taking part. Notably, 53% of overseas participants were local hires, and 36% were mid-level or senior professionals, reflecting TCS’ efforts to democratize AI across roles and geographies.
The hackathon serves as a cornerstone of tcs AI — TCS’ unified initiative (“TCS to the power of AI”) that provides employees with access to GenAI-powered tools, learning platforms, and work environments. The goal is to empower every employee to reimagine their work, enhance productivity, and deliver AI-driven innovation for clients.
The event also introduced a phygital experience, integrating online AI labs with in-person AI Fridays across major TCS campuses. Participants used TCS’ proprietary AI WisdomNext™ platform, alongside solutions from top hyperscalers and niche partners, to build and test real-world applications.
Aarthi Subramanian, Executive Director, President, and Chief Operating Officer, TCS, said:
“Attracting over 281,000 participants is a powerful signal of how AI has captured the imagination of all TCSers. The Hackathon was not just a competition, but a way to co-create the future of work — democratizing AI, upskilling our people, and delivering real impact for clients and communities. The tcs AI initiative multiplies individual impact and amplifies our collective capabilities.”
Generative AI played a central role in evaluating submissions, with human-AI collaboration ensuring fairness and scalability in judging. Several TCS clients have expressed interest in integrating the solutions developed during the hackathon into their products and services.
The tcs AI Hackathon 2025 continues in the form of weekly AI Fridays, aimed at nurturing continuous learning and innovation. By embedding AI into the flow of work, TCS is enabling employees to drive the next wave of AI-powered transformation across industries.
