Amazon Web Services has announced that Miracom, a leading smart factory solution provider based in South Korea, has selected AWS to power its Nexplant MESplus solution. This manufacturing execution system (MES) for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) provides Miracom’s customers with deeper visibility of their factory operations and a complete view across the entire manufacturing process—from material input to production, quality, facilities control, and shipping. The breadth and depth of AWS capabilities, including compute, containers, and database services, helps to enable Miracom to provide reliable solutions to over 300 customers in 20 countries globally, helping them boost factory productivity and improve product quality. In addition, running on AWS allows Miracom to innovate new Nexplant MESplus features easily and quickly. For example, by using AWS, Miracom can add functions that automate manual operation and maintenance processes in weeks or deliver a cloud-based demonstration system for prospective customers.

Demand for smart factories is rising globally, driven by companies seeking a competitive edge with increased manufacturing efficiency and improved product quality. By using data obtained during the manufacturing process, intelligent industrial solutions like Nexplant MESplus can significantly reduce operational costs and increase agility. As setting up and maintaining a smart factory can be cost-prohibitive for companies, Miracom is using AWS capabilities to build a new system in a secure and scalable environment that customers can implement easily and cost-effectively. Based on the success of Nexplant MESplus in South Korea, Miracom also plans to expand its services into international markets by using AWS’s global infrastructure.

Running on AWS, Miracom’s Nexplant MESplus smart factory solution enables SMBs in the manufacturing sector to maximize returns on investment in factory equipment and better manage their factories, while minimizing costs and manufacturing defects. By using Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Miracom can offer reliable services to customers and rapidly scale compute power when manufacturing demand increases, such as during surges, inventory shortages, or recalls. Also, by using Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), a service that helps customers to set up, operate, and scale a relational database in the cloud, Miracom can minimize database management time and focus on managing Nexplant MESplus.

“Miracom has simplified and reinvented essential manufacturing functions and processes within Nexplant MESplus on AWS to deliver a more intelligent, agile, and scalable smart factory solution,” said Jongweon Lee, head of the Smart Factory Business Group at Miracom. “Running Nexplant MESplus on the cloud makes it easy for us to continuously and easily provide customers with critical updates and innovative new features, which is especially helpful for SMBs that face difficulties in securing investment and manpower.”

“The world’s leading manufacturers are driving business innovation by leveraging the performance, scale, and portfolio of services provided by AWS,” said Kee Ho Ham, Managing Director at AWS Korea. “We are very excited that Miracom, a leading smart factory solution provider in South Korea, can boost its service capabilities through AWS. We look forward to supporting Miracom as they help more companies embrace the benefits of smart factories and lead innovation in the manufacturing industry.”
