Dr. Omkar Rai, Former Director General (DG) Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India took over as the Executive Chairman of Startup Odisha. Startup Odisha is the state Agency of MS&ME Department, Govt. of Odisha to develop the Startup Ecosystem in the state. Since 2016, Startup Odisha has been pivotal in nurturing innovation & entrepreneurship by recognising more than 1200 Startups, 21 Incubators, 75 Entrepreneurship cells under the initiative. Recently, Startup Odisha has come up with a World-Class Incubation Centre (O-Hub) comprises of state-of-the art, plug-n-play infrastructure to incubate, accelerate Startups and support start-up activities within the state of Odisha.
Aligned with the vision of Government of Odisha, inclusion of Dr. Omkar Rai in the government system for nurturing the start-up ecosystem affirms the commitment of the government to induct the best talent in their ecosystem for materializing the vision on ground. Born to lead from the front, Dr. Omkar Rai has also set several milestones across his professional journey that once seemed untenable to many before he ventured in and disrupted the status quo through his ingenious leadership. During his previous stint, he has led the IT Industry towards growth, worked for the dispersal of IT Industry beyond metros and is known as the protagonist of the software product nation. Because of his untiring effort, the National Policy on Software Products 2019 was created by the Ministry of Electronics and IT. He has created much talked Centres of Entrepreneurship initiative of Software Technology Parks of India in emerging technologies to make India self-reliant in technology products. This unique collaborative model has helped STPI in formulating 25+ CoEs in emerging technologies like AI, IoT, AR/VR, ACES, BlockChain, FinTech, Medical Electronics, Gaming & Animation, Cyber Security, Chip Designing, ESDM etc. for promoting R&D, Innovation and Startups in these areas.
Dr. Omkar Rai’s experience of working in close quarters with the government & industry at the top level as DG STPI and his expertise in policymaking have made him handpicked by the state to lead the Start-up Odisha Programme.
